Greater Manchester Electronic Clinical Correspondence programme has been selected to present as part of the Best Practice Showcase at EHI Live 2014.
In 2012, the Greater Manchester health economy invested in Docman Hub, an electronic document transfer (EDT) system to connect hospitals with GP practices. The solution integrates with patient administration systems and electronic patient record systems to send clinical correspondence electronically to GP’s. The system delivers information electronically in near real-time into the centre of GP practices Docman workflow processes.
It costs the NHS approximately 65p each time a letter is posted. Having invested in the solution, the Greater Manchester electronic clinical correspondence programme has now sent nearly 2 million patient letters electronically and report significant time and cost savings. Daniel Alexander, Project Manager, at North West Commissioning Support Unit (NWCSU): “Reaching nearly two million electronic letters has been fantastic for supporting our health economy in being efficient in what it does and removing the unnecessary costs that arise with handling and moving paper around.”
